Jo Beverley
Jo Beverley is one of the few authors writing English-set historical romance who is English. She was born and raised in England, and has a degree in English history from Keele University in Staffordshire. She and her husband emigrated to Canada in the mid-seventies and she is just now moving back to the UK where she will be settling in North Yorkshire. She has two sons.
She began writing stories almost as soon as she could string sentences together, and still has a medieval historical romance written in a school exercise book from when she was a teenager. It was only in the mid eighties, however, that things came together for her to apply herself seriously to writing, and she completed her first book in 1985. It was promptly rejected by a number of publishers, and she settled more earnestly to learning the craft. In 1988, it was finally sold.
She is now one of the most respected writers of the genre in the US winning virtually all the awards available, including five RITAs, the romantic equivalent of the Oscars. In addition, she is a member of the Romance Writers of America's Honour Roll for best-selling authors as well as being inducted into its Hall of Fame, an honour shared with only eleven other authors (among them Nora Roberts).
Despite all this success, this is the first time her books, which are virtually all set in Britain, have actually been published here.
